Local Park Groups Can Always Use Help and Support

St. James Park in the Spring

With the new city regime, budget cuts have come hard and fast.  Two groups – Riverdale Farm and High Park Zoo – have been particularly battered with monetary hardship.  I urge you to support these two groups – even if you don’t live in their neighbourhood.  Your local park may need their help if things keep going as they are.   If you know of other local groups, please let us know!

Riverdale Farm Toronto(Farm under threat from Budget Cuts) It’s important that you – the residents of Toronto – share your vision about what the Farm can or should be and offer your ideas to make this vision a reality.  The Riverdale Farm Coalition is committed to ensuring that your voice is heard and that your ideas are considered.

Save High Park Zoo(Zoo under threat from Budget Cuts) Here’s a place to show your support for the High Park Zoo. As some of you may know, it has been proposed that in order for the city to save money municipal parks such as the Riverdale Farm and High Park Zoo should be closed. Please show your support and let’s keep these parks open.

Greenwood Park in Winter

Friends of Greenwood Park – What is your vision for the overall plan of upgraded rinks and change facilities at Greenwood Park? There is amazing potential for community use of the building next to the rink (and swimming pool). Creative and intelligent design could allow for multi-purpose use of the massive, windowless, wasted space occupied by the current change rooms.

What is your vision for this space? Grandparents playing cards, children reading books, singles sharing a warm drink, skaters cozying up for a break? Holiday craft fairs, farmers’ market stalls, resident association meeting space? Community kitchen, school skating program room?

Danforth East Community Association – East Lynn Park –  Danforth East Community Association (DECA) is a group of neighbours that started working together in 2007 to make our community more vibrant, walkable, safe and fun. In our first four years, we’ve made big changes to our little pocket, starting with our East Lynn Farmers’ Market, giving facelifts to a number of Danforth stores and bringing the Danforth East Arts Fair to the community. With your
help, we can do even more.

Friends of Withrow Park – a local users group devoted to the development of Withrow Park

Jonathan Ashbridge Park – Leslieville – The Leslieville Farmers’ Market’s mission is to support relationships between the community and local environmentally responsible producers in order to enhance access and awareness of local fresh food.

Friends of St. James Park Toronto – A group of businesses and residents working together to ensure the restoration/revitalisation of St James Park (Toronto) for the enjoyment of all.

Johnathan Ashbridge Market

Friends of Trinity Bellwoods Park – A volunteer group that works together to improve the green space, cultural and recreational activities of Trinity Bellwoods Park. Since 2001, Friends of Trinity Bellwoods has been recognized by Parks & Rec and by our councilor as the vehicle of community consultation for the park. We are a diverse group who are willing to share new ideas, respect other points of view, and participate in a collaborative process to create a vibrant community park.
